Solanum Lycopersicum or commonly known as Tomato, is a type of plant that is widely cultivated by farmers today. Environmental factors and stable selling power are the reasons why this plant is popular with farmers in Indonesia. Even so, it does not mean that tomato plants do not have problems in the cultivation process. There are many farmers whose crops fail or because they don't know how to deal with diseases that attack their crops. One of the plants that is susceptible to disease is the tomato plant. To overcome the disease that attacks the tomato plants, an expert / agricultural expert is needed. While the number of agricultural experts/experts is limited and unable to deal with the problems of farmers who are quite a lot and at the same time, so a system is needed that has the ability of an agricultural expert, which in this system contains the expertise knowledge of an agricultural expert regarding diseases. Symptoms and Management in Tomato Plants. In this research a Web-based expert system was designed and built using a rule-based reasoning with Forward Chaining and Backward Chaining inference methods which are intended to assist farmers in diagnosing diseases in tomato plants, as well as how to deal with them. In this study the Forward Chaining and Backward Chaining methods will be compared so that the results of which method will be more suitable for diagnosing a disease will be obtained. From the results of a comparative analysis of the two methods, it was found that the Forward Chaining method is better and more efficient for diagnosing diseases in tomato plants.
